I wonder if a microwave could light up a glow stick, ultimately causing a bubbly explosion of molten glow goo?

Hey Speedracer,

I actually tried a glow stick once and was disappointed because nothing happened. I was hoping it would "crack" then glow in the microwave oven, but it didn't and I was worried that it could explode. I'll try it again though, perhaps putting it in different spots of the microwave.

Unfortunately, the turntable of my microwave oven cracked this past weekend. The crack is about 3/4s of the way across the turntable. You can actually flex/separate the two parts slightly, but the other 1/4th is still holding the circle together. So I've been pampering the turntable for now and holding it very delicately. A replacement turntable is $30+, so I may just pick up another microwave oven instead.

I went ahead and tried it with some already used glow sticks...nothing happened. Not that I really expected it to since they were burnt out. I did however set one on fire with my propane torch. The ends started glowing green on a red glow stick, but it soon popped and squirted all over me. Maybe an unused stick would work....If I get a chance, I'll try it too.

Speedracer,

Check out the glow sticks! Next time, I'll put together one of those glow stick "balls" where you take 10 or 12 glow sticks and connect them into a ball. That should be neat.

Absolutely spectacular! I'm glad it worked out, except for the squirt in the lens...I'll see what else I can think of or try that might be cool.

Thanks!
