Some time mid-last (school) year we had a microwave in our shop (tech school, don't want to get into the details). So we asked our teacher and the department head if we could "use" it. The teacher wasn't to thrilled, but the department head was A-OK with it. He brought over all of the CDs he'd confiscated (about 6-7) stuck 'em in the microwave and nuked them. Some pretty colors, some smoke, the usual. Next we put in some small light bulbs; they put on quite a display! They looked like those plasma globe things. Then some started to go out. I'll let the pic below show what I mean. And yes, the filament is still pretty much intact.
Then we put in various electronic parts, which I won't mention in detail. All I can say is, large ICs will burst into flames with plenty of smoke, and resistors just burn.
